Call Out - 10EAD Memoir

If I fail Electronics this semester it's because of Mrs Nua. I wouldn't be missing out on the valued information that is Electronics if it wasn't for the "subtle" pressure to post something. But anyway, this is a memoir we were assigned to write for English Ad. (Language may slightly offend. But probably not. So this very sentence is wasting your time. Okay go read now.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He stood there.  Watching.  I stood there.  About to crap my lavalava. "They probably locked him up," she says. "Dad will be outside" she says.  I didn't dare to even gulp, let alone move.  There was no way I was risking anything, especially with him. 'Pleeeeaaaaaaaase Lord.  I'll do it another time. Please, just not now,' I internally cried. 'So this is it.  This is how it ends.  A church carpark. Alone.' I allowed myself one shaky breath out.  'Lord please don't let me die like this." As if hearing my pathetic plead, the malicious bastard practically galloped towards me.  'Why thank you Universe!'

Stupid tears begin to blur my vision, ruining my staunch appearance.  I tightened my buttocks in a weak attempt to stop crying.  'Why did I have to walk down? I'm a girl, I'm not meant to even be walking around at this time.'  While I stood there feeling sorry for my self, Mr. I'mMeantToBeLockedUp encircled my pathetic excuse of a defensive stance.  I contemplated calling for help, but if anyone was to hear the faintest of my plea, it would be the minister.  Then again he would probably be so engrossed in the new X Factor episode to hear.

Sniffing the air, the fat lump of hair's attention recabrilated to a corner of the carpark, where some small rodent crashed about.  I don't think I'd ever been so thankful for rats before.  Hope now present, but still miniscule.  With his back now turned to me, I took this opportunity to attempt a sprint back home. Back to those ghastly two people.  Feeding me false information, practically endangering my life. My mum and brother.  I dared to step backwards, the heel of my jandal slapping against the cold rubble. 'No one will even see you,' she says, 'just wear the jandals' she says.  The sound echoed through the carpark, not really helping my case.  At all.

Any form of hope diminished the milli-second his ears perked up.  He whirled around charging full speed at me. Barking, teeth bared, eyes burning - the works. I screamed pathetically when I realised I was basically going to die.  I hadn't even been in a school production yet.  I heard him whimper but didn't bother to stop, he was probably just trying to trick me. Another whimper and I dared to glance over my shoulder, out of breath.  I was shocked really.  No, not that Caesar had now sat watching me intently, and not trying to kill me. Someone had stopped him.  The world no longer had the possibility of suffering the grief aspect of my amazingness being absent.

My minister called out, smiling and patting the dog,

"Call out next time!"

Where I Am From

Where I Am From from SchoolTV on Vimeo.

Recently in my Social Studies class, we've been focusing on migrants and immigration regarding New Zealand.  Our task was to create a project showing where you/ your ancestors have come from, why they've come etc. regarding immigration in any medium.

I chose to create a movie based on my grandparents, (you know seeing as I'm all techy and stuff...)

I particularly enjoyed creating this movie as it actually gave me a better understanding of why/how my grandparents got to Auckland/NZ. It has certainly given me an even higher of the respect I already have for my grandparents, simply hearing about all the issues that happened along the way.

Huge credit to my grandparents for making the decision to move for their children, let alone agreeing to be interviewed for this.
Thank you, I literally wouldn't be here without you.

The Misunderstanding of Rumpelstiltskin

In my English class, we are learning about storytelling. Our task was to either write an original piece or to rewrite a classic. I chose to rewrite the story of Rumpelstiltskin. The following is my final edit.

Oh blast the evil queen and her wicked ways!  If it wasn't for her malicious doings, I wouldn't be scattered across this overgrown field of barren grass.  You’d think she’d have the decency to at least store my ashes safely in a vase or jar of some sort. But no, here I am disseminated among the beetles and dead worms on Mount Rumpel. You may know me as the man who spun gold for a miller’s daughter, or the man who tried to steal the queen’s first child.

Not one soul knows the truth about me. After what the king had done, who would?  This king, is my Father.  I was the first royal child and how happy the kingdom was that the king had given birth to a boy.  However, I was not good enough for my father.  'A waste of riches and royalty' peasants complained. Of course no man would want such a hirsute child!  I was born with Ambras Syndrome and Dwarfism.  My birth caused the death of my mother.  It was too much for my Father to take in, so the guards were ordered to take me to the farthest mountain and be left there.  I was to be named so ridiculously so that no one would remember my name. And so, I was named Rumpelstiltskin.   It was against the law to speak of me. I was to be forgotten.

The kingdom gates were locked, no one was to leave - no one was to enter, despite the annual visit of the king’s friend who was an old miller.  It was 25 years on - the kingdom was falling apart.  The king’s greed had increased so much he became crazy.  Nothing was ever enough for him.  He demanded taxes to rise so high workers were left with nothing but a penny.

In the wild, I was forced to scavenge for food.  The only option I was left with, was the feculent sewers that ended at the bottom of Mt Rumpel.  The day came when the miller visited, and he had brought along his daughter.  This was the usual time I snuck around the kingdom, as all the focus would be on the miller.  From the sewer drains I watched as they walked together to the castle, all eyes glued on their faded pastel clothes.  Many of the young fellows tripped over themselves trying to impress the passing maiden.

I was squeezing my plump tush through the rails when I saw a window open in one of the higher rooms of the castle. I crept along the dusty streets of the kingdom and crawled up the staircases.  I finally reached what I thought was a room of wood.  Slowly opening the door, I felt shivers slither up my spine, the miller’s daughter! Much more quickly, I began to close the door until the girl started to cry.  My piliferous ears pricked up and listened to her, “Why, how am I meant to spin straw into gold?!” she sobbed.  I couldn't believe my hairy little ears. I turned back and peeped my head in. “AAAAAAAAH!!!” she screamed.  "What an ugly little troll! Ugh! Be gone! Leave at once! What a hideous sight!"

I walked back out and grumbled, "Well I guess that straw won’t be spun into gold, will it?" "You! You can spin straw to gold!?!?!  Well what are you waiting for!?!?! SPIN!!!"  She grasped the collar of my filthy shirt and dragged me to the spinning wheel. "My existance is depending on this!! NOW SPIIN!!!" I rubbed the back of my neck and asked, "What will you give me?" "What will I give you?! What do you mean?” she laughed “Oh, I suppose I could spare you some straw and you shall spin your own gold."  I sat for a further few seconds.  "SPIN FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!" she shrieked, and in one swift motion, her necklace of stones was removed from her neck and heading towards my bearded face. I dodged the piece of jewellery and quickly got to work.

The night was reaching its' end when I had finished.   I sat there awkwardly expecting a compliment or reward of some sort.  "Um, maiden?  Where shall I slumber?"  She looked dumbly around the small room. "Why, there is no need to rest!  The morning is dawning, now leave! The king must think I have spun this on my own! But if you see that my father and I have not left by midday tomorrow, return to the palace, or I shall take your life. Now go!"

I did as I was told to, and returned the next day as they had not left yet.  Again I was to spin straw to gold, but this time, the amount was much more immense.  "What will you give me?" I asked.  The girl sighed, "Oh if you MUST have something, let it be my ring! For it is made of the finest gold!"  But I, am no idiot.  Why, it was simply painted silver! But I accepted the offer anyway.  And away I spun.  It wasn't till the next day I had completed the task. I tried to leave. But I was met with a very loud, firm growl as I opened the door.  "You must not leave!”, she yelled, "For the king has plans for me to spin even more!"  Footsteps made their way up the staircase and towards the room we were in. The girl picked me up and placed me in her bag.

Later that night we were brought to an even bigger room of straw.  The king said if she was to complete the task, she would be announced the new queen.  She turned the bag upside down, and I tumbled out. She laughed evilly, "Why, if you spin ALL this straw to gold, I swear on my mother's grave I will give you my first child!" She carried on laughing while I got to work.  I finally slipped out of the city and back to my shaggy hut.

It wasn't long at all until the echoes of gossiping teenagers reached my mountain.  She had given birth to a baby boy.  Once I reached the castle, I walked into the realms of the King and Queen and they both were horrified at the sight of me.  "Why! Could it really be?!" the king exclaimed. "You know this man?" she asked him.  "Why, is that you my son? I've been looking everywhere for you!!" he sarcastically announced. I looked at him lamely then looked to the queen. "Where is my promised prize?" I asked. "Why, NO! NEVER! I WILL NEVER EVER GIVE YOU MY CHILD!!!" she screeched.  The king asked her and she explained all that had happened. "I knew you were no good!" and with that been said, he took hold of his torch and within seconds I was set ablaze.

So that is my story.  My name is Rumpelstiltskin, and my ashes have been scattered across Mount Rumpel.  My father neglected me when I was child, as did everybody else.  I was just a man who's intentions were good, but I've been simply misunderstood.

9EAD Assignment : Landing on Jabberwocky

In my 9EAD class, we are studying the planet fo 'Jabberwocky.' Our class has been split up into groups according to which team we applied for. On board the S.S Explorer, there are five different teams which are the navigation team, the wild-life exploration team, the medical team, security and defence, and the  extra-terrestrial group, which I am in. In my team I am the 'indigenous ethics advisor.' There are about 5 or 6 students in each team. During class sessions, our room is sometimes transformed into the ship and our desks are swapped for panels or surgery tables and other things each team needs.  We have just landed and our assignment is to draw what we saw while exploring the planet of Jabberwocky. Here are my 6 snapshots.

Swimarama, as an Intermediate student

Slowly, I trudged up the dripping steel staircase, aware that this was my last chance to cruise down the black worm according to the rules. Feet first. One at a time. No blocking up the water.  My cousins and I found that last rule a bit hard to deal with, so I guess that's why I'd already been kicked off twice that day.  But my younger cousin Jorja and I assured the lifeguards that it wouldn't happen again, so we were able to continue gliding down the hydro-slide.

Once we reached the top of the treacherous tower, I leaped forward into the slide, shrieking a loud nothing in to the black hole. I laughed my way through all the bruises and pain as I hopped out of the small landing pool. I noticed a huge clan of girls and boys running towards the diving pool. My eyes lit up as I sprinted out pushing through everybody and lining up to have my turn on the Diving Board, although I think we both know I can't dive.

My turn eventually arrived so I crawled up the ladder and stepped on to the blue plank. Once I was signalled by the lifeguard, I sprinted forward and leaped in to the air flipping backwards three times and perfectly streamlined in! Then I switched back to reality, with my long toes hanging over the diving board, with my stomach the only thing back flipping. I finally gather the courage to jump, so I bounce once, twice, then I propel my self forward, then while falling from the sky, shape myself into a ball, hitting the water with a thud.

Being a Billionaire

If I were to be a Billionaire,  I actually don’t think I’d be at school right now.  Well, I wouldn’t have to be because I’d be home schooled by my employed teacher Ben Carson, in my 2 story ensuite bedroom.  Which would include, a 50 inch Plasma screen TV, 2 king size beds, a never ending Zombie chew dispenser, a 5 inch statue of SpongeBob made of diamonds, a huge yellow trampoline, 2 elevators, and a diving board which would allow me to cannonball into my 30 acre pool.

And that’s just my bedroom. My house would be 5 stories high. I’d have 5 guest rooms, and 10 rooms for my when my family are visiting, 3 toilets, 3 bathrooms, an Ice Cream Parlour, a filming studio, and blue & green rooms (for filming purposes). I’ll have bought a nice little house for my parents and brothers down the road.  I’ll have a chauffeur, a personal chef and I’d own five of the Burger Kings around Auckland.

And during the summer, I’d ride down to Wendaholme beach.  I’d have bought that as well, but I’d be kind to people and let them enter with only a $20 dollars fee. (Adults 50)  After a vacation in one of Waiwera’s holiday homes, I’d fly to an Art School in France, buy that and a couple of 30 million dollar paintings and become a great legend and create a masterpiece as great as the Mona Lisa, or maybe even Sunflowers by Van Gogh.

Transport.  I’d own a private jet, a yellow Mercedes Benz, and 5 yellow buses.
But that’s if I was a Billionaire.

Thank you Duffy Books in Homes!!

Earlier on this morning I received a package with my name and school address.  The package was small, square, and soft.  I carefully ripped it open, trying so hard not to wreck it.  As I slipped my hand in and felt the soft bubble wrap, I smiled and pulled the object out and found a book. I turned the package to have another look and saw it was from Duffy Books in Homes.

This wasn't just any book. This was BEN CARSON'S GIFTED HANDS!  I was so overwhelmed!! I saw a small letter, read as fast as I could and grabbed the bubble-wrapped book and and saw that Ben Carson himself had signed: 'Best Wishes, Ben Carson'.  I shrieked with excitement.  The reason I had received this book, was because earlier on this year I entered a writing competition about reading, and why and how it would help me in the future with want I want to do.  It turns out I was one of the five winners of the competition!!!  And now I have the honour of reading his journey to greatness.  Thank you SO SO SO MUCH DUFFY BOOKS IN HOMES!!!!!!!!

On the Logs

The special place that I have chosen is the logs that used to be near the playground, which have now been taken down.  The reason I have chosen this place, is because this is where I first found some of my friends that I have today. Plus that was the place where we always used to go and sit down. The subject in this photo is my friend Selena, on the place that never had a name.  To us, it was ‘The Logs.’

In this painting, I have tried to portray the style of Vincent Van Gogh.  If you didn’t know, (which is very unlikely), his style of art is called Post - Impressionism. I tried to make my art have a relaxed atmosphere, with colours that don’t clash. I have used ‘Water Soluble Wax Pastels’ in this artwork to try and give a different effect to it.  The reason I have chosen Van Gogh is because I like his art very much.

The Eleventh Extravaganza

“Do I really have to?” I groaned. It was the 20th of April and the day I turned eleven had arrived. Also the day I had to wear a bright pink dress my aunty had picked out. “Yes.” she said firmly. There was no way I was wearing this in front of my friends. My reputation would be ruined! Hopefully no one brought any cameras.
“Just kidding!” my aunty laughed. She put down the hideous dress, and pulled out a beautiful pacific patterned dress. “THANK GOODNESS!” I shouted!

My mum barged in and said “ Hurry up. Selena’s already here. Get changed!” Selena, Selena, Selena. She was always there the earliest. “Ok mum.” I said while struggling to put on the dress. “HURRY UP!!” My mum yelled. Well, so much for being kind to the birthday girl! It was the 20th of April. My birthday. I had turned eleven. It had been a looooooong week thinking about today. Finally, the day had come.

“Thank goodness!” I said relieved as I got changed. I heard voices outside my window.Gasp! It was my friend Selena!! She had come early!! “Knock, knock.” she was knocking on the door. “Coming!” I yelled while quickly putting the embarrassing bright pink dress in to hiding. I ran to answer the door to see Selena. “Hi Reka. Happy Birthday.” she said shyly. “Hi Lena!” I practically shouted.

Enthusiastically I jumped outside to help Selena with her bags and went on and on to talk about what we were going to do :”So we’re going to eat first, and then we’re gonna talk about secrets- Oh and don’t worry I didn’t tell anyone-” My blabbering was interrupted by one of Selena’s fake coughs. I looked up and saw Selena’s family standing there giggling then I looked back at Selena and her face was bright red. Quickly I said “ Thank you for letting Selena come! Lena want to come inside?” We both sped in to my bedroom and waved at her family from my window.

“Phew! Nice save Reka.” she said while looking cautiosly at my room as if she’d seen something suspicious! Gasp! What if she had seen my bright pink dress! Oh no! “Umm..” I mumbled trying to think of an explanation. Thankfully, 3 loud beeps came from the long driveway. Yes! Now I didn’t have to make up something.

Selena and I ran out to greet Mubbasshira. Then weirdly 30 seconds later, Ala came. Then Mino. Then, we ate! My dad had made a big pile of sticky ribs and a huge bowl of chicken fried rice. YUM!! And for my dear friend Mubbasshira my dad had bought a Chicken Donner Kebab. After we spent 30 minutes drooling, thinking about the food. It was time to eat. Selena handed me my knife and fork. Politely, I took them and put then down and then dug my teeth in to the glorious sticky ribs.

Taonga Time Project

Lately, we have been having Taonga Time every Friday, after morning tea. I am in Mrs Telea's class. We are the movie making group. At the moment, we are learning how to use iMovie 11. We were assigned to put together a little movie that covers what goes on at Pt England School. As well as The Point England Way. The movie above will present to you what the Pt England Way is. Just to help you, it's not just walking in line, but it's being respectful, being kind to others, being courteous.

Photoshop Elements

At the moment, I am learning how to create different types of Graphics on Photoshop Elements. It has been very fun and I once saw a movie like this so I decided to try and do it myself. I now know how I would look if I were an orange. I would like for other people to try this for them selves. I kept on laughing at the pictures I made but this was the funniest. Thanks for visiting my blog!

How To Pitch A Tent

Equipment
Pegs
Hammer
Poles
Fly (Outer tent)
Base
Interior
Inner tent

INSTRUCTIONS (Be aware that this may not be suitable for some types of tents)

During this process, make sure that you put spare pegs and poles in to the bag it came in.

1. First of all, you will need to unfold the base of the tent and lay it down. Ensure that the opening of the tent is facing the right way. Get a peg and place it through the eyelit. Hammer it in to the ground at a 45 degree angle AND so it is a bit hard to pull out. Repeat on every corner.

2. Once you have finished hammering the pegs, you will have to get the poles out and thread them through the inner tent. Once they reach the other side of the tent have a friend pull it out and put it in the second smaller eyelit. Repeat this process for the second pole.

3. Thirdly, you will need the fly (outer tent). Place it carefully on top of the inner tent. Make sure that the fly’s entrance matches the inner tents door.

4. You will find that there are little ropes attached to the fly. These are called GuyRopes. You will need more pegs for this. Hammer them down as you did the same with the four corners. But you don’t need to secure it as tightly.

5. Once you have finished that, you may lie down in your perfectly pitched tent.

Hopefully . . .

Superior Statistics

Recently, our class was taught statistics. So we were all assigned to create a form and make every student in the class fill it out. My form was asking which annual event was their favourite. From my data I have concluded that 75 % of Room 20 like Christmas the most, and only 12% like their birthdays better. I am surprised that I got a response saying "Chocolate Day" I guess you do learn something new each day.

Colourful Korero

This Term at school, we are learning how to lead the way. Pt England's Korero is helping us do so. So, for our animation task, we had to show how to Lead The Way by following the korero that was chosen. My phrase, was Take Charge. In the movie above is my animation. Please enjoy!

The Second Blow

Another earthquake in Christchurch has occured and have killed 90 people. It is very sad as it has damaged churches, schools, hotels, workplaces and have split roads in half. Quite a few of the citizens have tried to leave but are being told to return home if possible. Buildings have collapsed and trapped many people underneath rubble and concrete walls causing unconsciousness. It has become an International rescue effort, specialists from Japan are being sent over.
The hospitals in Christchurch are full of injured citizens. Some are being rushed to Auckland City and StarShip Hospital. Lyttleton is where the Epicenter is. My family and I are going to pray, and if you are the praying type please help, and pray for Christchurch.

Sunny, Tropical Fiji

Being in Fiji has been simply AMAZING! And I’m not just saying that because I FINALLY got to go on a plane. We went inside a submarine, went snorkeling, raced geckos, and EVEN rode horses on the beach.

The name of the hotel we stayed in is called ‘The Westin’. It is a lovely place with their kind workers and scrumptious meals. They have a REALLY nice pool, a gym, nice walking tracks and absolutely BEAUTIFUL gardens. At the front of the hotel was the beach side, and if you walk down the long pathway, you would see that there about 8 other hotels, all lined up against each other. The cool thing is that you can use other hotels’ pools. One day our family went pool hopping. Another cool thing about the hotels is The Bula Bus. It drives from hotel to hotel, picking up and dropping off tourists and hotel guests.

On the second day there, we went on a cruise to South Sea Island-an uninhabited island. When we finally reached our destination, we all hopped out of the boat and on to a jetty. The water was so clear that if you were to just sit in the water, you could see fish swimming around you! The sand was white ! It was like the pictures in the brochure! But better! After getting over how white the sand was, we went inside a submarine. We saw stingrays, blue starfish, masses of coral and huge fish!

After four days of buffet breakfasts, we headed for Sonasalei. A famous hotel, packed with tourists. We felt special because it’s seems much more private. You have to get to a jetty and cross a river to get there. There were heaps of Australians there, my mum began to start talking with an Aussie accent! For one day, the adults went to Nadi while the kids went to the Kids Club. This was the place where we did all the EXCITING stuff like, catching crabs, racing geckos and kayaking! After getting tired and adventurous, we went for a little dip.

Being in Fiji has been one of the best things I have ever done!

A very VERY late update!!

So here's every that happened since my last blog post : I bought a necklace, my tooh fell out, the tooth fairy didn't come - Oh, and I almost forgot...this ALL happened in Fiji! I, went on a plane! An actual plane!!! It was my I was very excited. The resort we stayed in was called ' THE WESTIN' It is one beautiful resort. Their workers are very nice. They ALL say Bula to you. You feel very special there. I went to Fiji with my big beautiful family. The reason why we went is because earlier last year in October my parents went to Fiji for a wedding. When they came back they decided that we were all to go. This has been the first report of FIJI 2011. I PROMISE there will be more and maybe a movie. Over and out.

2010 has been a THRILLING year. Though I found a few things difficult, the rest was still awesome! I think that I’ve done a good amount of work this year and that I have done well. The rest of my writing will explain to you why.

Firstly, writing. I figure I did pretty good with it. My motivation, is that I would like to be an author in the future. I reckon I’m a slow writer, when Miss Garden tells us things I take time to process it all.

To be honest, I’m not a fan of Maths. I guess I didn’t do as good as I could have. For me, the strategies were quite difficult. Because when ever I thought I’d learnt how to do it properly, we would move on to another strategy. Maths is the one subject that I would REALLY like to improve on.

My MAIN motivation for this year was Prize-giving. It was AMAZING! I REALLY liked our ambassador prizes. I also love receiving lolly leis (Though I’m not sure where they disappear to).

Camp Bentzon was a HUGE highlight for me. It was the first time I had seen dolphins, stingrays, wallabies, jellyfish and a gummy shark! Though it was a bit frightening, the camp was SENSATIONAL!!! Another exhilarating bit was studying Active Earth. I really liked our projects. I think my booklet looks impressive.

So there you have it, the main reasons why I thought my year was thrilling! 2011, here I come!

One Well-Crafted Film

Crystal Clear from KPE TV on Vimeo.

This year I teamed up with Angela and Mubasshira to produce the well-crafted movie above.
It took a lot of practices and brains to create this fantastic film. The song we chose was: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", by Pat Benetar.
We had a lot of fun in the making of this movie. We hope to soon see your movies. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie.

Me Myself and Time

I imagine myself in my own little world. Where there's only me, myself and time. My mood controls the weather. Every thing smells like strawberries. Except for one little pink house. I don't know why it's there though. I want to give it a makeover. Make it all sparkly and pink. But I don't know what's in it. I never have. I wonder if anyone else has their own world. I wonder if it all smells like strawberries. I wonder...
