9EAD Assignment : Landing on Jabberwocky

In my 9EAD class, we are studying the planet fo 'Jabberwocky.' Our class has been split up into groups according to which team we applied for. On board the S.S Explorer, there are five different teams which are the navigation team, the wild-life exploration team, the medical team, security and defence, and the  extra-terrestrial group, which I am in. In my team I am the 'indigenous ethics advisor.' There are about 5 or 6 students in each team. During class sessions, our room is sometimes transformed into the ship and our desks are swapped for panels or surgery tables and other things each team needs.  We have just landed and our assignment is to draw what we saw while exploring the planet of Jabberwocky. Honesty & Hope

Last week we were assigned to complete a movie showing one of the values of Pt England School. I teamed up with Sylvia and Thora. My group and I couldn't decide whether to do Honesty, or Hope. So we did both. We all agreed that honesty is telling the truth about your own mistakes. And that hope is fighting to believe that we can achieve whatever we choose to.

Colourful Korero

This Term at school, we are learning how to lead the way. Pt England's Korero is helping us do so. So, for our animation task, we had to show how to Lead The Way by following the korero that was chosen. My phrase, was Take Charge. In the movie above is my animation. Please enjoy!

Me Myself and Time

I imagine myself in my own little world. Where there's only me, myself and time. My mood controls the weather. Every thing smells like strawberries. Except for one little pink house. I don't know why it's there though. I want to give it a makeover. Make it all sparkly and pink. But I don't know what's in it. I never have. I wonder if anyone else has their own world. I wonder if it all smells like strawberries. I wonder...

Pink

Looks like a bouquet of flowers.

Smells like a brand new strawberry lip gloss.

Tastes like cotton candy.

Sounds like applying lipstick.

Feels like I'm wrapped in silk.

Life Among The Sea

Life must be so hard for a crawling litle crab. Their shells always getting tossed in to the sea. Children shrieking with excitement when they crawl out of their shells. Hiding underneath thick grey rocks, forever hoping that no one will find it. But then being lifted in the hands of an excited toddler.

Then everything changes when grown up. Being shoved around in the sea and then shooed away on shore by angry parents or scared children. From being lifted up to being pushed away.

Life must be so hard for a crawling little crab...

....and Mrs Tele'a relates to a map, how?

During one of the extension sessions, Mrs Tele'a (the extension teacher) sat in the middle of the room, while the Yr 5 and 6 extension crew had to draw her from different angles. In this activity we only had five minutes to finish the complete drawing. The entire extension group have drawn a picture of this and on it, have put a few friends' drawings.

If I were to repeat this excersise, I would concentrate on my view, and not try and make up things I didn't see into the drawing.
We all had our own type of style. Every artist has their own type way of drawing. That explains why everyone's drawing looked different. No one had the same as any one. We all enjoyed this short project. We used hyperstudio to do this and only had about 10 minutes. Before this activity, we have all drawn a map from the school to our home, and a map of the eLearning centre. We looked at reference points when drawing maps and scale.

We did this because we tried to experience how difficult it was to be a famous explorer, find land, and then having to draw the country, with only a feather, ink and a piece of old paper. To get everything in the right proportions and scale things correctly. How hard it must have been to be one of the greatest explorers in the world.

My Friend Roger Wagner

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Roger Wagner, the man who invented HyperStudio, for the lovely disc he sent. I am very grateful for this. I was very excited when I received this.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. It's exciting to think that my work might be used for examples of hyperstudio around the world. I never knew that the inventor of my favourite multimedia programme, would be watching my blog. Thank you Roger Wagner for the wonderful gift. I'm looking forward to learning more about using this fabulous programme!

Vaka Voyagers

Maori myths and legends tell us stories of how the first Polynesians got to Aotearoa New Zealand. Yet, no one knows where they came from. Most think from the island of Hawaiiki, which is around all the other Pacific Islands. The movie above explains what they would've taken along for the journey. Imagine trying to pack food for 50 people, for 3 months!!! These polynesians sure are Mighty Mariners. 

 Too bad no one else can do the same as these brave warriors.

Mighty Vikings

Vikings are Scandinavian traders. They are known to be a type of pirate, wearing : Helmets with horns on the sides, with braided facial hair. These people are proudly strong and fierce, fighting wars to protect or claim their land. The word viking is used to refer to explorers, mariners or pirates.

The Famous TP Club...

Judy Moody. My new favourite series is about an eleven year old girl named, Judy Moody. She is famous for all her different types of moods, but Judy doesn't approve of this because it's not "Newspaper Worthy" The recent book I have read about Judy is: JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS! It's when she tries to get more famous than her nemesis: Jessica Finch. Judy, is in a club for T.P. And no, it doesn't stand for Toilet paper, it stands for Toad Pee. You see, who ever held their mascot Toady, would've felt something warm and wet on their hands. I know. Weird. But I think that Megan McDonald and Peter Reynolds are the perfect combination that created the series of : JUDY MOODY

I Spy A PMI

Mt Tarawera is a New Zealand mountain. It is a very popular landmark in New Zealand. The Yr 5 & 6 extension team have been learning about this and have created a project as one of our challenges to go towards our marks in Academic at the end of the year in Prize Giving. Here is my thoughts on the words :Positive, Minus, and Interesting.

POSITIVE

-We found out lots of Aotearoa (NZ) history throught this project.

-We built up our camera and acting skills.

-Lots of people co-operated well together.

MINUS

-Not that many people in my group listened to me (only the girls did).

-I didn't get that much help from team mates.

-My script wasn't planned out.

INTERESTING

-No one knew much about Mt Tarawera so it was quite interesting.

-There are lots of Maori myths and legends.

-We all were focused and interested in this project.

A Sad Somalian Story

Hi everyone! As you can see in the title above, this is a sad Somalian story. My reading group "Moreporks" have read another interesting a book called Asli's Story by Adrienne Jansen. It is about a young girl named "Asli" she lives in the country of Somalia. But Somalia is a very dangerous country. Alsi then moves to Kenya, and then to New Zealand. But life gets harder for her as she tries to learn all the new languages and ways we live here in Aotearoa. Watch this movie I made using Hyperstudio...

A Blurb Of Blue

Hello dear readers! This short movie above, is about a group of soldiers in East Timor. They are called Blue Patrol. My reading group (Moreporks) have been reading an information book all about these soldiers. Did you know, that Blue Patrols soldiers can play soccer and video games, while still guarding? I just found this out after reading this book! There is another team of soldiers that are called "Green Patrol". This the group that guards day and night sitting the dried up bush. They are not allowed any light source or heavy eating. Watch this movie and see how Blue Patrols spend their free time.

A Planet With Talent.......

Hello dear readers! Have you ever wondered why or how volcanoes are made? Well, you're in luck. Because this animation, will inform you about inside our earth. I also found out that, the deeper you go inside the earth, the hotter it gets! I also found that, the center of the earth, is hotter than the sun! And, it's even bigger than Mars! AMAZING.
