The....Um....Incident.....

Kia Ora readers. This movie above is going to explain why we had to have a treaty. The main reason is because they had wars and arguments. This movie is another peace of New Zealand History. It is showing what happened after one of Captain James Cook's crew mates, mistreated one of the Maori chiefs. When the first boat of settlers, arrived on the boat called "The Boyd", the members of the tribe killed the people on that boat and destroyed it. This stood out to me that this was a DEFINITE incident. Watch and learn.

Highlights First, Then Holidays...

Kia Ora dear readers. Sadly, this is our last week, of Term 1. In this blog post, I am going to tell you, some of the highlights from Term 1.

The first thing that stood out for me was auditioning and getting the privilege to PRESENT in front of all of the visitors that come to our school. It has helped me a lot with my self-confidence. It builds up motivation in the other presenters as well as my self.

The second highlight - that was really huge, was when we got to talk to the world famous, head designer of NIKE. His name is Dwayne Edwards.(Scroll down to 'The Day Of D'Wayne) And that was all through the power of ROW(Rock Our World). It is a project that school's from around the world are part of. The founder of this project is Carol Anne McGuire. She is very famous and teaches all kinds of kids. She is also a specialist on the computer, and is one smart cookie!

Last but definitely not least, was our school's year five and six camp, Camp Kindness. It was shocking for me when my name got called out to be a LEADER. I definitely didn't see that coming! We all co-operated well and had a great time. I can't wait for the Year six camp!

I am looking forward to next term's theme which we will learn about. Why don't you leave a comment and suggest what you think next term's topic is. Take a guess. I would love to learn about animals.

Have a great holiday everyone! See you next term! Actually, I will be posting during the holidays.

The Day Of D'Wayne

" Have you all finished sketching your shoes?" asked Mrs Tele'a. "Yeeeeesss" we all chorused. We were getting tips out of the head designer of Nike, D'Wayne Edwards. Yes, you heard me. The HEAD designer of Nike, D'Wayne Edwards. Did you know he designed the 2nd Air Jordan? AMAZING!! He says that his garage is full of the shoes he designs. He has made a lot of famous shoes, like one time, he made a special horse riding boot, and the people who wore it, received a medal at the Olympics! He has even designed a high heel shoe!Once, he used to work at McDonalds. His manager said that he would never get in to the foot wear thing. But when he went there for lunch, his manager came out and said" What are you doing here?" Then he replied by saying,"I've got a job as a shoe designer" Then the manager patted him on the back and said,"I knew you could do it!" I think this shows that D'Wayne never gave up, even when people doubted him.

A Matou Mihi

Kia Ora everybody. Once again, extension has started, and we have made our Matou Mihis. It took a lot of work, as we had to rush in the progress. I just wanted to give you the link to my page with my Mihi on it, so you could maybe post a comment. It would also be cool if you were able to comment on the rest of the extension pages as well. If you go to my Flickr page you will also see on the right that there are the rest of the class' mihis. We really appreciate it. Thanks.

One Of A Kind

Lately, our class has been learning about the famous artist, Van Gogh. In his pieces of art, it's as if colours dance across the canvas, like flickering fire burning in the landscape. You can see a sense of movement in the depressed impressionist's art. What a tragic artist. He wanted to sell his paintings, but only one or two got bought. Now, his paintings are worth up to 90 million pounds! He would've been very wealthy if he still held his paint brush in his hand today. Sadly, Van Gogh cut his ear off, put in a box, and sent it to his girlfriend! This all happened because of how depressed he was. Later on, he painted a magnificent masterpiece, then shot himself. Two days after the shooting, he died. No one could save him. His brother Theo, tried to save him, but it was too late.
