Sit back and relax...

Earlier on, in my post : Extension! Extension! Read all about it! I mentioned that we had to create a project about the famous Mt Tarawera. We all contributed with mini animations or movies to put in to the real completed thing. My part was to explain what happened what Sophia's (One Of The Head Guides) house looked like before and after the eruption. Watch and enjoy!

Curse Of The Baby-Sitter...

Knock Knock. There it was again. That annoying sound. Knock Knock. I decided it was time to face him. My brother. My little brother.Knock Knock. Okay, it was time. I unlocked my bedroom door and stomped towards my little brother's room. Strange. He was asleep. And it couldn't have been my elder brother knocking because he was at a friend's for the night. It was dead silent. And it was dark. Very dark. The only place it wasn't either of those things, was in the living room.Brr. It was cold. But how could it be when it was in the middle of Summer? I was scared. I started to whisper to myself to create my own company. Shivers slithered up my spine. Who was here?

I tiptoed towards the living room, silent as a mouse. I peered over the sofa.I only saw mum and dad all dressed up fancy looking like they were going--- Uh oh. It couldn't be happening. It just couldn't. Not tonight. Any night but tonight. Mum and dad were going somewhere. Without me or Justus. This was no robbery, this meant Aunt Jen was here.
"Oh there you are sweetie!" mum said in a high voice. She turned around, holding a pizza box. That confirmed it. They were out for the night, without me or Justus. "Yawn!" my little brother walked slowly in to the living room stretching his arms out saying,"Mum? Where are you and daddy going?" Mum and dad looked at each other for a brief second."Ummm.......Well we're, we're.... going to school! Why? Do you want come with us?" Mum and dad smiled slyly. Here we go again. The same old excuse. But it only worked on Justus. He absolutely HATED school. " So where is she?" I said as I folded my arms. "Where is who?" Dad said trying to act as if he didn't know who she was. "You know who." I said firmly. "Oh, okay..... Aunt Jen is just outback getting a few things for your special surprise." Mum said slyly .Hmmm. What did "special surprise" mean?

I raced in to my room, bounced on to my bed and continued reading my book called : The Candy Crime:A Lost Licorice. I locked my door and lay in bed. I did NOT want to see Aunt Jen. I'd rather eat a ton of broccoli. "Toreka sweetie!" the evil voice sang,"It's dinner time!" Oh no. My stomach started doing flip flops. Aunt Jen is not the best of cooks, trust me. "Are you hungry sweetie?" she chirped, "I know you wanted my special broccoli pudding,(Yuck) but Mummy insisted on pizza!" "Gasp! Pizza!" I said in my mind sitting up. That's right! I ran to the dining table full of excitement. To my surprise, the pizza was half gone! (Aunt Jen and Justus weren't big fans of pizza-I guess they were hungry) I quickly sat down and got my self all the cheesy bits, (The pizza was called Double Cheese Extreme) When I finished, I did NOT say thank you. After all, Mum was the one who bought it, NOT Aunt Jen.

"Okay," said Aunt Jen rubbing her hands together,"Who wants to see the special surprise?" Only Justus jumped up and down. I couldn't care less. She pulled a colourful bag and whispered,"Take a peek." I didn't care what she had said, I just wanted to see the so called ," Special Surprise". I closed my eyes and reluctantly, ever so cautiously, reached in. To my surprise, I did NOT feel her pet mice, NOT her yuck broccoli pudding, NOT her boring brick collection, but it was something I actually liked. It was "The Candy Crime 2:Curse Of The Candy Cane" I smiled full of happiness. Where's Justus wasn't happy at all. He had gotten a yo-yo.(He's used to flash gizmos and gadgets ) And he was NOT happy about it. I poked my tongue out at Justus and skipped happily to my room. I stopped and turned around. There was Aunt Jen, staring at me. Oh boy. Here we go again. When would this nightmare end? "Thank you Aunt Jen" I muttered quietly as possible, making sure she couldn't hear me. Shockingly she replied,"You're welcome."

"What A Cutie!" Mum says...

Yes, yes. It's true. That cute little girl is acutally me. But anyway, I knew these exact things : Volcanoes make mountains. I know. I was a smart little girl. And if you don't believe me, watch the video below. You might laugh, it's embarrassing, but still,  I knew an important fact : Volcanoes make mountains.
Please leave some feedback for me to see!
Thanks!

All Whites all the way!

The mattress is ready, we've got a fire burning. Now all we need is the All Whites to win. I know it's shocking that I'm talking about soccer. I'm not much of a soccer fan but the FIFA World Cup has easily grabbed my attention. Four more hours to see the memorable match between Paraguay and New Zealand.

I wonder how the All Whites are feeling. I am confident that they are more nervous than I am before my netball match. Coming out of the tunnel the All Whites will be a great sensation. If I were there I would be dressed all in white, even paint my hair and face white!

1.30am - wish me luck, I'll do my best to be awake.

Go the All Whites!

Drop, Cover and Hold!

Drop, Cover and Hold! Those are the three steps that you would do during an earthquake. Today is one of those days. As our students are calling it, Disaster Day has turned out to be exactly what it has been named. We've had to quickly crawl under our tables. Yesterday, I, Toreka, just witnessed my first earthquake(s) Toreka, 10 year old reporter,is out.

Extension! Extension! Read All About It!

As another one of our tasks at extension, we had to reflect on what we had been doing at extension. So here are my Thinker's Keys:

What Did I Do Well?
-I wrote two scripts by myself.
-I created the iMovie
-I finished things off before it was due

What Held Me Back From Doing Well?
-Someone in my group was mucking around and not helping
-My group let me do most of the work.
-No one was listening much
-People kept on singing when they were supposed to be recording their voice over

What Is The Purpose Behind Doing The Mount Tarawera Project?
-So Mrs Tele'a could grade us
-It would help with our marks towards prizegiving

The Famous TP Club...

Judy Moody. My new favourite series is about an eleven year old girl named, Judy Moody. She is famous for all her different types of moods, but Judy doesn't approve of this because it's not "Newspaper Worthy" The recent book I have read about Judy is: JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS! It's when she tries to get more famous than her nemesis: Jessica Finch. Judy, is in a club for T.P. And no, it doesn't stand for Toilet paper, it stands for Toad Pee. You see, who ever held their mascot Toady, would've felt something warm and wet on their hands. I know. Weird. But I think that Megan McDonald and Peter Reynolds are the perfect combination that created the series of : JUDY MOODY

I Spy A PMI

Mt Tarawera is a New Zealand mountain. It is a very popular landmark in New Zealand. The Yr 5 & 6 extension team have been learning about this and have created a project as one of our challenges to go towards our marks in Academic at the end of the year in Prize Giving. Here is my thoughts on the words :Positive, Minus, and Interesting.

POSITIVE
-We found out lots of Aotearoa (NZ) history throught this project.
-We built up our camera and acting skills.
-Lots of people co-operated well together.
MINUS
-Not that many people in my group listened to me (only the girls did).
-I didn't get that much help from team mates.
-My script wasn't planned out.
INTERESTING
-No one knew much about Mt Tarawera so it was quite interesting.
-There are lots of Maori myths and legends.
-We all were focused and interested in this project.

A Sad Somalian Story

Hi everyone! As you can see in the title above, this is a sad Somalian story. My reading group "Moreporks" have read another interesting a book called Asli's Story by Adrienne Jansen. It is about a young girl named "Asli" she lives in the country of Somalia. But Somalia is a very dangerous country. Alsi then moves to Kenya, and then to New Zealand. But life gets harder for her as she tries to learn all the new languages and ways we live here in Aotearoa. Watch this movie I made using Hyperstudio...

Neat Little Netbooks

Last year, our school began using Google Apps for education. If I begin working on a document at school, I can continue working on it at home, or anywhere else as long as the Internet is available. There are lots of devices that connect to the web. Even some flash cellphones! At the moment, only some of us have computers to work in this way. The Manaiakalani (Pronounced - Ma-Ni-Ya-Ka-La-Nee) Project is working, so our all the Year 5 to 13 students have an Internet device of their own. Imagine what we will be able to achieve then! You may need to come back and see...

The Key To ROW 12

Hello fellow bloggers! This information below, is my thoughts about Rock Our World 12. R.O.W. is a global project where the extension group gets to participate in making music tracks and video conferencing with peopl efrom around the world. We are now up to round 12. The theme is WOW, which stands for Walk Our World! Please read my writing below and leave a comment about my reflections.Thank you!

Reflection

What did I do well?

I helped film the shoe advertisement that represented our school on Family Night (Day)

I turned up on the actual day of the video conference

How can I improve in what I did?

I could've helped some other people if they got stuck on anything.

Brick Wall

What held you back from doing better?

Someone in my group was playing around and not paying any attention.

No one was listening.

They let me do most of the work

List Down Some Solutions

-I could've ignored them or dealed with them myself

-I could've asked them which job they wanted to do

-I could've talked to my teacher about it

Purpose

What is the purpose behind us doing ROW?

-We get to make many unexpected connections from people around the world

-We all participate in making a music track and send them around the world and other people add their own tracks of instruments

-We all learn about many inspirational things

-D'Wayne Edwards had some very interesting and useful things:

1. Believe in yourself

2. Find a mentor

3.Work hard

A Blurb Of Blue

Hello dear readers! This short movie above, is about a group of soldiers in East Timor. They are called Blue Patrol. My reading group (Moreporks) have been reading an information book all about these soldiers. Did you know, that Blue Patrols soldiers can play soccer and video games, while still guarding? I just found this out after reading this book! There is another team of soldiers that are called "Green Patrol". This the group that guards day and night sitting the dried up bush. They are not allowed any light source or heavy eating. Watch this movie and see how Blue Patrols spend their free time.

Please leave a comment and tell me what you didn't know before!
Here are the rest of my reading group;s blogs : Joshua, Matthew T , Selena H, Ala and Mubasshira.
