Picnic Paradise

It was a warm sunny day and 502 people were all squashed in to the school hall, hot and bothered. I didn’t really know why we were there, but then it hit me. Literally, hit me : A crumpled school notice that read : School Picnic 24th February. That was today!! All of the seniors couldn’t wait to leave for the picnic. That, or they couldn’t stand the heat. As soon as Mr But and Mr Jacobsen had finished chin wagging, we set off for the reserve.

We all wandered down towards the beach full of anxiety. Most of us were slightly agitated at the long walk, but I got distracted because I kept on hearing something like “Squish, squash.” I looked down and saw that my jandals were absolutely saturated! All of my friends were laughing because my shoes kept on squeaking for the rest of the walk.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to walk so far to the place we were sitting. Unlike some other people who had to go far in the distance.

Straight away, we dropped our things and sat down. Most of the boys ran off to play cricket, gridiron and touch, while the girls went to put their togs on. But I just lay down with my friends. Ah, the feeling of satisfactory. It was really relaxing.

After a good session of gossiping, we ran off to play soccer. Then when we got all sweaty, we went for a stroll along the beach. It was peaceful, until the boys discovered they could mould the wet sand and throw it at the girls

This year’s picnic GREAT! I can’t wait until next year!

  1. Hi Toreka, I like the way you explained what the scenery looked like. It feels like I actually there, well I was there, but the way you explain whats going on sounds so much better. I also like all the expression in to your sentences and your vocabulary is just excellent. Also I cant wait until next year's picnic, like you.
